Job Summary
Due to the forthcoming retirement of a long-serving member of our team, Park Gate & Company Ltd is looking for an experienced Technical Sales & Applications Engineer to support and develop our customer base across the UK & Ireland.
This is a predominantly field-based role promoting Park Gate’s extensive range of industrial products and engineering services, including electric motors, variable speed drives, motor repairs and rewinds, control panel manufacture, automation and industrial electrical installations.
Although Park Gate is based in Carlisle, we are happy to consider candidates located elsewhere across the North of England, provided they are well positioned to manage the territory effectively.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical knowledge with commercial ability, developing existing customer relationships while actively generating new enquiries and converting opportunities into orders.

About the job
As Technical Sales & Applications Engineer, you will become a key customer-facing representative of Park Gate, building on established relationships while developing new business opportunities across the territory.
The role covers both product sales and engineering services. You will promote electric motors and variable speed drives, motor rewinds and repairs, as well as project opportunities for Park Gate’s Electrical Services and Control & Automation teams.
You will work closely with customers to understand their technical and operational requirements, identify appropriate solutions and coordinate with Park Gate’s internal sales and engineering teams to develop quotations and proposals.
A key part of the position will be maintaining momentum throughout the sales process – generating enquiries, following up quotations and turning opportunities into confirmed orders.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain relationships with existing industrial customers.
- Generate new business across the North of England and Scotland.
- Promote electric motors, variable speed drives and associated industrial products.
- Develop opportunities for motor rewinds, repairs and associated engineering services.
- Identify project opportunities for control panel manufacture, automation and industrial electrical installations.
- Visit customer sites to understand technical and commercial requirements.
- Generate and pursue new sales enquiries.
- Work with internal teams to prepare appropriate quotations and technical proposals.
- Follow up quotations and progress opportunities through to order.
- Build a strong understanding of customer sites, applications and future requirements.
- Maintain regular contact with key accounts and prospective customers.
- Represent Park Gate professionally at customer meetings, site visits and relevant industry events.
- Provide market and customer feedback to the wider business.
About You
We’re looking for someone who combines sound technical knowledge with the ability to build relationships and develop commercial opportunities.
You may be a good fit if you:
- Have good technical knowledge of electric motors.
- Understand variable speed drives and their industrial applications.
- Have knowledge of automation and electrical control systems.
- Have previous technical sales or business-development experience.
- Are comfortable visiting industrial customers and discussing their technical requirements.
- Can identify and develop both product and project opportunities.
- Have experience generating and pursuing sales enquiries.
- Are confident following quotations through and converting opportunities into orders.
- Have strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Are organised and capable of managing your own territory.
- Are comfortable working independently in a predominantly field-based role.
- Have a proactive and commercially focused approach.
Experience within industrial electrical engineering, motor sales, motor repairs, drives, automation, control systems or associated engineering sectors would be particularly valuable.
